a suburban wasteland...

pretty strange title for a blog but i thought of it a couple days ago...i was heading to tyrone mall and on the other street behind my house near the park...i saw two vultures eating a dead possum on the sidewalk...now it wasn't so much seeing the dead possum because i see animals dead on the side of the road before...but it was the fact that VULTURES were picking at it...i mean how often do you see vultures...i thought it was kind of crazy...and from that i came up with the suburban wasteland name...i thought it might be a good name for a band...but i don't plan on starting a band any time soon...

any way after that i started thinking about that name...tried to think of the different things that would characterize what a suburban wasteland is...and while thinking of this and trying to park so i can go into the mall i look over and see one of the fucking dumpsters on fire...yeah...one of those huge green nasty dumpsters with flames coming from the inside...i thought that was cool...so i started taking pictures of it and when i noticed the trees starting to catch a little i was kinda hoping that the trees would go up in flames too...but they didn't...so i finally gave up and went into the mall...

monday night was the last home game of the lightning season...and God was that a sad night...not only sad but a frustrating night too...rachel got a room at the embassy...so when i got done with babysitting i headed home to get my stuff and then i made the drive to tampa (which i have to say sucks having to do hours before the game starts)...i thought gandy might be a little backed up but i got pretty lucky and beat the traffic over the bridge...ended up getting to the hotel a little after 5 and just kind of hung out till the game started...liz and her family went to the game too and we saw them during warm ups...then finally the game started...and man i swear up until about 5 minutes left the game just sucked...it was uneventful...both atlanta and our guys looked like they weren't trying...then the thrashers scored and it seemed like after that our guys just didn't care...then atlanta scored again in an open netter with maybe a minute or two left and FINALLY our guys started to care...that was when they started trying but it was just to little to late...and after that i was just mad...i was frustrated...i go to the games to see hockey and i didn't see that...instead i saw a team that i have supported all season whether they won or lost that just could care less...i appreciated what they did in the end when they came out and put the sticks in the air...but i couldn't clap for them...i was mad...yeah it sucked that we lost...i mean a fucking shut out on our last game...but it was more so that they just didn't try...i have more respect for a team who lost but gave there best in the game...and they didn't do that...

it sucks that the season went the way it did...my first official hockey season and it just went from low to high to low...i mean it started off with my favorite player dan boyle getting his wrist cut from his skate that fell during pre season and just kind of went from there...lost three of our favorite players...and plenty of losses during the third period...but i supported them...and i went to the games to cheer no matter what...but i still loved this year...i'll never forget it...i met some pretty amazing new people because of this great sport...encountered some really crazy strange fans who i will probably end up having to deal with them next season too...had some fun adventures and made so many inside jokes with the ladies from sticks and chicks...everything that happened before the games...during the games...and after the games makes me sad that the season is already over...but gets me pumped for september to come sooner...

Things I Would Like to See Next Season...
  • An actual Dan Boyle fight, since they are about as rare as pregnant man!
  • A goalie fight break out!
  • One of our guys laying out another playing by throwing his ass through the glass!
  • The team idiot from the other team score on his own goal!
  • One of our guys beat the shit out of a fan!
    See You Next Season!

Heh, the sight of the St. Pete Times Forum fills me with traumatic memories. I actually drove ~10 hours down there a couple of weeks ago to watch my school lay an egg in the NCAA basketball tournament.

On a happier note, I did enjoy Tampa. And people there do seem to have taken to hockey.
